'Players Would Have Been...': Ravi Shastri on Whether Asia Cup Could Have Been Played In The UAE

The Asia Cup 2023 is facing a lot of criticism over the scheduling of venues. All three matches of the Indian team have been interrupted by rain so far. Going forward into the tournament, it will be pretty difficult to decide the winner if the rain continues to interrupt.

BCCI was not in favour of going to Pakistan as PCB was the host for this year's Asia Cup. So it was decided by all the members of the ACC that the matches would be played in Sri Lanka apart from the four games which were played in Pakistan.

There were a lot of discussions on why the Asia Cup is not being played in the UAE, to which Jay Shah, ACC president, responded that it is too hot this month to have a 100-over game per day. Considering, we are heading into the World Cup, it can be a risk for the players to play in this much heat.

Here's what Ravi Shastri said:

"If you actually see at this moment in time, there is rain everywhere. You know, there was talk about that it could have been played in Dubai. Dubai is so hot… for a 50-over game, these players would have been finished. It's unforeseen circumstances, it’s a calamity that can happen naturally. You look at Bangladesh, northern India, Mumbai, coastline of India… there is rain everywhere."

The Asian countries do have rains consistently in these months and that's what Shastri said. To which former seam bowler of Pakistan agreed that it is true and the fans are not happy as well. All the members of ACC took the decision mutually and nothing can happen now.

The ongoing India vs Pakistan game has also been marred by rain, but the Super 4 match has finally commenced, with India having the upper hand over Pakistan.
