Rajasthan Royals (RR) fell just one run short against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 50 of IPL 2024, despite a gallant effort from Riyan Parag and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who stitched together a century partnership in pursuit of SRH’s formidable 202-run target.

The match featured standout half-centuries from SRH’s Travis Head and Nitish Kumar Reddy, setting a challenging target for the Royals.

Parag unhappy with his performance; Rues missing out on a ton

Riyan Parag, who has seen a resurgence in form this season, candidly expressed his self-critical views in the post-match press conference.

Despite his significant contribution where he scored 77 off 49 balls with eight fours and six maximums, Parag felt he hadn’t delivered his best, stating that there were numerous areas in his game that needed polishing. He also highlighted how he focuses on not replicating his mistakes.

"I got a lot of areas to improve. I am not in my best form, I would have finished the game otherwise. I got a lot of areas to perfect. I try to learn from my mistakes and not repeat them. Is it my best innings? No. I would say that if I get a hundred," said Parag.

It is worth mentioning that the Rajasthan Royals all-rounder has shown marked improvement batting at the number four position—a spot he prefers and excels in during domestic cricket—after facing considerable criticism for past performances.

This season, he has amassed 409 runs across nine innings at an impressive average of 58.42 and a strike rate of 159.84, including four half-centuries.

Meanwhile, with the season unfolding, the young all-rounder’s determination to turn his insights into action could well be the silver lining the team needs to clinch the title that has eluded them since the inaugural season.
