In a post-game press conference, Devdutt Padikkal, the promising young cricketer from India, expressed his delight and satisfaction after scoring his maiden Test runs and forming a crucial partnership with Sarfaraz Khan on Day 2 of the Dharamsala Test against England.

Several years of hard work and perseverance paid off for Karnataka's aspiring cricketer Devdutt Padikkal as he made his Test debut against England in Dharamsala. He further proved himself on Day 2 of the Test by scoring a gritty half-century against the odds.

Padikkal and Sarfaraz Khan were put in a spot after India lost both the centurion openers in quick succession after the lunch break.

However, the two young batters displayed patience and maturity to stitch a commendable 97-run partnership. Both Padikkal and Sarfaraz got fifties, with the former getting his first 50-run score in the red ball format.

Owing to the duo's resistance, India posted a convincing 255-run lead by the end of Day 2's play.

That said, after the game, Devdutt Padikkal appeared for a press conference and spoke in detail about his debut experience.

The Karnataka batter revealed that the first boundary he got off the edge was the most enjoyable moment of the day for him, as those were his first Test runs.

"My first boundary off the edge was most enjoyable because those were my first Test runs," Padikkal told media.

Besides, he considered the partnership with Sarfaraz a crucial moment. He added that Sarfaraz is a fun guy, and he enjoyed his time with him.

The conversation between the two youngsters was light and straightforward despite the tough situation. They gave each other confidence, and the rest is history.

"Always fun to bat with Sarfaraz Khan. He is a character, we just kept it light and made each other comfortable," added Padikkal.

Notably, Devdutt Padikkal's debut was slated just hours before the start of the Dharamsala Test. Rajat Patidar received a blow during practice, which forced him out. And Patidar's loss was Padikkal's gain, as he received his Test cap on March 7.
