Former England cricket captain Eoin Morgan has expressed his conviction that the captaincy of Ben Stokes will undeniably wield a profound impact on the highly anticipated Ashes series. The former England captain further opined that, Stokes' aggressive approach on the field has been heavily influenced by the dynamic playing style of their coach Brendon McCullum, who played with an attacking mindset during his playing days.

It is undeniable that Stokes has produced a noteworthy resurgence for the English Test side ever since assuming the captaincy from Joe Root. The all-rounder has made it abundantly clear that England will leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of victory in the Ashes, adopting a fearless and unyielding mindset.

Morgan, who himself has benefited from McCullum's tutelage, acknowledged the immense impact that effective leadership and captaincy can have on a team's performance. Stokes' exceptional leadership skills have earned him widespread admiration, even prompting Morgan to observe and learn from his approach.

The seasoned campaigner also acknowledged the profound influence of McCullum, whose aggressive playing style has left a massive impression on Stokes' development as an all-rounder.

“Good leadership and captaincy can make a real difference to a team and Stokes’ leadership I think is going to be key for this Ashes. He’s always been a leader and as captain he’s been great. I’ve sat back and admired how he’s gone about it. I learned a huge amount from his coach Brendon McCullum and leadership is shaped by the people that have influenced you. They have recognised what strengths their players have and are trying to utilise them. And they've worked,” said Morgan while speaking to Mirror Sport.

It is worth mentioning that the English white-ball system, which has undergone a dramatic transformation, owes much of its success to McCullum's groundbreaking strategies, as highlighted by Morgan.

As anticipation builds for the highly anticipated Ashes 2023, all eyes will be on Stokes, who promises to revitalize the English side with his leadership.
