'I Started Enjoying Being Alone': Prithvi Shaw Opens up On his Mental Struggle

It has been a topsy-turvy few years for India's Prithvi Shaw. The former Under-19 skipper, who started on a positive note at the international stage, has found it difficult to maintain the same level of form.

Moreover, Shaw's off-field disciplinary issues have always hindered his chances to represent the national team. Despite performing on a consistent basis at the domestic circuit, Shaw hasn't played for India in two years, and has now skipped the Deodhar Trophy to play for Northamptonshire in the County Championship.

Recently in an interview with Cricbuzz, Shaw opened up on a number of things, and one of them was the mental struggle as a player and how he copes up being all alone.

"What do I do going out? Jaha bhi jaau, kuch na kuch hota hai. Jaana hi band kar diya hoon (Wherever I go, trouble follows. I've stopped stepping out altogether). These days, I've been going alone even for lunches and dinners.

I've started enjoying being alone now. A few days ago, I went alone to watch a movie - Insidious. Baap re baap, khatarnaak movie tha bahut (It was too scary). Glad it wasn't in 3D. I was alone, couldn't even ask someone to come and sit next to me."

He further added: "I feel the concept of best friend has been created by us. 'He's my best friend'. A 'friend' is fine, but there are no 'best friends' as such. I also have friends, I am also a friend, but best friend - you won't share everything with them. You won't give your ATM pin to them, right? They say 'best friend is the one who shares everything'. We can't share all this, no?."

Shaw will play in England's domestic ODI competition - Royal London ODI Cup, and following that, the 23-year-old will represent Nottinghamshire in the County Championship games.
