Glenn Maxwell, the Australian all-rounder and teammate of Virat Kohli at Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has added a humorous twist to the ongoing debate surrounding Kohli's selection for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Despite Kohli's remarkable form in the IPL 2024 season, doubts have been raised about his suitability for the T20 format at the international level.

Virat Kohli's recent century in the IPL, his eighth in the tournament's history, has failed to silence his critics, who question his strike rate and adaptability to the T20 format.

Maxwell, however, took a lighthearted approach to the matter, jokingly expressing his hope that India doesn't pick Kohli for the World Cup.

Maxwell's Take On Kohli's T20 WC Participation

Maxwell fondly recalled Kohli's exceptional performance against Australia in the 2016 T20 World Cup, highlighting Kohli's ability to deliver under pressure and his unmatched game awareness.

"Virat Kohli is the most clutch player i have ever played against, so I'm hoping India doesn't pick him for T20 WC."

He further praised the caliber of Indian players participating in the IPL, recognizing them as phenomenal talents deserving of consideration.

"It's not surprising because there are 1.5 billion (people in India) and I reckon half of them are unbelievable cricketers in this country (laughs). It's a hard team to get into. You look at India's top T20 players who are all playing in this tournament (IPL 2024). They are phenomenal players and there should b on every player."

Kohli's T20 international career statistics underscore his prowess in the format, with over 4000 runs at an impressive strike rate. Despite the ongoing debate, Kohli's track record and contributions to Indian cricket make him a formidable contender for the T20 World Cup squad.
