'I Feel Rahu Is Sitting In His Kundli,' Ex-Cricketer On KL Rahul's Series Of Injuries

An untimely recurrence of quadriceps pain ruled KL Rahul out of the second Test against England after the Indian middle-order emerged as his team's stand-out batter in the defeat in Hyderabad.

The Karnataka right-hander, who underwent a quadriceps surgery last summer, has been given time to recuperate for the remainder of the five-match series after being sidelined by the BCCI for the next Test, starting February 2 in Visakhapatnam.

Former India batter Aakash Chopra spoke of the unfortunate development and said the injury theme has been one of Rahul's biggest stumbling bloc in what should've been a prolific Test career with the bat for the 31-year-old.

Chopra On Rahul's Costly Absence For Vizag Test

"This has been the biggest problem in KL Rahul's career. Injuries or illnesses have come at the wrong time and they have come many a time. When you feel everything is gone fine - injury, dengue or COVID - something or the other goes wrong with him. I feel Rahu is sitting in his kundali," Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Rahul played a patient and restraint knock of 86 in the first-innings in Hyderabad, continuing his rich vein of form since producing a timeless hundred upon comeback last month in Centurion against South Africa.

Chopra noted that not just form but the batter's ability to replicate England's sweeping tactics versus the spinners makes him a big miss for the critical next Test in Visakhapatnam, where India need to bounce back despite carrying an understrength side.

"The way he played in the first innings, and to be fair, he was batting assuredly in the second innings as well. There are very few people in our team who play the sweep. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul play the sweep, and KL Rahul will now not be there in this game," he added.

In Rahul's place, the selectors opted to bring in prolific domestic scorer Sarfaraz Khan into a squad where Madhya Pradesh right-hander Rajat Patidar is already acting as a backup. One of Sarfaraz and Patidar is set to make his debut for India in Test cricket.
