'Hope Even I'm Able To Win Matches' - KKR Youngster On Russell Ahead Of IPL 2024

Kolkata Knight Riders' new recruit Ramandeep Singh revealed his adulation and respect for idol and West Indies allrounder Andre Russell ahead of the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Singh wishes to win matches for the two-time champions in the manner that his hero has done over the years. 

Speaking to KKR.in during an interview, the Punjab middle-order batter and handy medium pacer said he takes huge inspiration from watching Russell ply his trade and exercise his dominance on opposition teams. 

The Caribbean stalwart has been an integral part of KKR's journey and fortunes in the marquee T20 league since 2014. Russell has now played 91 IPL games for KKR and scored 2,204 runs at a strike-rate of 174.90 while also recording 95 wickets with his skiddy fast-bowling. 


Ramandeep Wants To Follow Andre Russell's Footsteps 

"I’ve been following Russell right from the start and have seen how he creates an impact in the T20 format with bat as well as ball. Whenever I bat, I try and think what Andre would do in this situation and then look to execute that," Singh said. 


"As far as the bowling is concerned, Russell bowls the most difficult overs for his team and he’s won so many games for KKR. I hope even I’m able to win matches for KKR like Andre."


Picked up by KKR at the mini-auction after being released by five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI), Singh would be hoping to gauge his hero on and off the field and soak in lessons that would help enrich his own game when the opportunity arises for him in the playing XI. 

The uncapped 26-year-old talent has played 38 domestic T20s in his career and scored his runs at a strike-rate surpassing 155 apart from taking 13 wickets at an economy rate of 8.14.
