South Africa have a troubled relationship with World Cups, having seen the wrong end of the result multiple times.

Heading into the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, South Africa notched a resounding 3-2 ODI series win over Australia, bouncing back from a 0-2 deficit, making them a dark horse for the competition. Former South African pacer Dale Steyn, who is quite vocal, expressed his hopes to see his home county in the final.

Speaking to Star Sports, the speedster explained that his heart wants South Africa, but his mind says India versus England will take the centre stage on November 19 in the final at Ahmedabad.

Here's what Steyn said

"I feel like the favourites would probably be India. I feel like India is going to be one of the finalists and probably England. But my heart wants to say South Africa and India, but I am kind of leaning towards India and England,” said Steyn.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad coach added that playing in the IPL will help several South African players perform better in the World Cup and could even make it into the final.

“It’s a tough one, you know my heart wants to go with South Africa making the final. I would love them to make the final, their team, a lot of their players play in the IPL, they play in India regularly. They got some guys like in David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen who really started to figure out those conditions and bat well there. Then, there is KG Rabada who has been bowling there for ages and a lot of their other senior players have played a lot of cricket there. So I feel like they have got the ability to go on and get to the finals with getting those players," he added.

The Temba Bavuma-led side will begin its World Cup 2023 campaign on October 7 against Sri Lanka at Delhi.
