'Haven't Given Up' - Glenn Maxwell Eyes Test Comeback After White-Ball Exploits In India

One of Australia's recent heroes in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has opened up on his future in red-ball cricket. Maxwell has had a stellar few months in India, having scored two centuries and one double-hundred for Australia, contributing in near-impossible wins.

However, the Test has remained a distant dream for the 35-year-old, who last played a red ball for Australia back in 2017, against Bangladesh. Maxwell nearly made a comeback during the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023, but an unfortunate injury hampered his return.

As quoted by Fox Sports, Maxwell upon returning from India mid-way an ongoing T20I series, stated his ambitions to play Test cricket in the near future, with a jam-packed season ahead for Australia.

Here's what Maxwell said

“I haven’t given up, I think I’ve just got to be realistic about the timings of the way I’ve been playing my white-ball cricket. You play a World Cup and then you don’t play any Shield cricket, you play at the back end of summer in white ball and don’t play any Shield cricket, so it’s just the way it’s gone over the last 10 years of my career really."

Speaking about his WC campaign, Maxwell explained the feeling of hitting the winning runs in Australia's record-extending sixth World Cup title.

"The two runs in the final were pretty cool. I don’t think anything’s going to top that. Even though there were moments during the tournament individually, I think that final ... nothing’s going to top that.”

In seven Tests between 2013 and 2017, Maxwell has scored 339 runs with one hundred and picked up eight wickets.
