Shreyas Iyer’s sister Shresta Iyer has penned a heartfelt note for the Indian team following their demoralizing defeat to Australia at the 2023 World Cup final.

The Indian team, under Rohit Sharma, got their unbeaten tournament juggernaut halted by an insurgent Australian unit in the title clash at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. Middle-order stalwart Shreyas Iyer, fresh from his twin match-winning centuries in the preceding two games, himself failed to get going on the big day as he was dismissed cheaply by Australian skipper Pat Cummins.

A day after India’s defeat, his sister Shresta took to her Instagram account and backed the team to come back stronger from their World Cup 2023 ordeal.

Shresta Iyer posts message for Indian team

Shreyas Iyer’s sister Shresta praised the Indian team for their unbeaten World Cup 2023 effort up until the finals, and claimed that the ‘Men in Blue’ will surely make a triumphant return from their setback.

A dance choreographer by profession, Shresta also expressed words of admiration for her brother Shreyas, who emerged as one of the leading run-getters of his country in the tournament.

She wrote an appreciation post for his brother and Team India.

Dear team India,

"Australia won the cup but y'all won our hearts. The way we dominated this tournament, won all the 10 matches, y'all didn't give up till the end and fought for the cup equally makes you all a winner and I'm very proud of my team. Yes, I am heartbroken because we lost the finals but I respect each and everyone of you for equally putting in effort for the team. We will come back stronger than ever #teamindia."

To my brother,

"Nobody knows how hard you've worked to get where you are today Shreyas. I just want to say that I'm incredibly proud of you. You've always been a bright shining light of inspiration for me and for so many others. Yesterday was not our day but I'm sure we will come back stronger."

Shreyas Iyer will next be seen in action during the last two matches of the five-match T20I series against Australia. The batting maverick was among the 16 players selected in India’s squad for the series, which itself is set to commence on November 23 in Vishakhapatnam.

The matches marks India’s first set of international fixtures since the conclusion of the 2023 World Cup, and will serve as a testing ground for the team in their road to next year’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies.

Considering a number of star attractions have been rested from the Indian team, Iyer will start out as one of the senior members alongside the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Axar Patel and Ishan Kishan.
