Indian team saw the emergence of Yashasvi Jaiswal as a Test opener in the recently concluded, five-match Test series against England. His batting exploits throughout the series left everyone admiring his potential.

Jaiswal opened the batting in all five Test matches along with Rohit Sharma and laid the foundation for big scores. The presence of an experienced campaigner in Rohit Sharma ensured the youngster paced his innings beautifully and played according to the situation.

During those partnerships, Rohit Sharma often came up with crucial advice for the youngster, which helped him a great deal.

During one such incident in Dharamsala Test, skipper Rohit Sharma told him not to play on the off side but rather opt for straight bat shots. Jaiswal obliged and what followed was three straight boundaries to Shoaib Bashir.

Shedding light on the same during an interview with the Indian Express, here’s what Yashasvi said:

“He came and told me that in that moment that shot is not on, it will be better to hit straight. So I was trying to hit straight. I must tell you nothing misses his eyes. He knows everything. That is the biggest quality. He is aware of things and what is going on. Alag level hai, it’s so fun to be around him."

After witnessing his heroics in the Test series, Jaiswal has certainly dismissed all the doubts about his potential to be a great Test opener. The southpaw accumulated 712 runs in five matches at a staggering average of 89.

After India lost the first Test, Jaiswal helped India come back into the series with a match-winning double-century. He followed this with an unbeaten 214 in the third Test, helping India post a mammoth 430-run total.

The 22-year-old is all set to play for Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming IPL season, starting 22nd March.
