What If IND vs PAK Gets Called Off Due To Pallekele Rain?

India will play against Pakistan tomorrow, i.e. September 2, at the Pallekele Cricket Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka. This is the first time the arch-rivals will square off in ODIs since their clash in the 2019 World Cup in England, which India won via the DLS method.

There is a lot of excitement surrounding the clash. But the weather may play spoilsport to the contest. Kandy has been experiencing heavy rainfall for the past two days, and rain has been forecast on the day of the match as well.

Sri Lanka, and especially the area near Kandy, experiences monsoon during the months of August and September. This is one of the reasons why out of the 33 ODIs played at the Pallekele stadium, only three have been scheduled in August and September.

According to AccuWeather.com, there is a 94 per cent probability of precipitation during the match, a 27 per cent chance of a thunderstorm and 97 per cent cloud cover.

So what happens if IND vs PAK match is called off?

For the game to have a result, both the teams need to play at least 20 overs each. But if that is also not possible, both teams will be awarded points. Since Pakistan have already won their first match of the tournament against Nepal, another couple of points will see them advance to the Super 4 stage. India, meanwhile, will take on Nepal in their second group stage fixture.

As mentioned above, the last time India and Pakistan played an ODI in 2019, rain affected the game and the result was decided via the DLS method. Fans and especially ticket holders will be hoping that the rain Gods stay away and let the big clash unfold.
