'Would be our biggest achievement': Nicholas Pooran eyeing for T20 World Cup

West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran thinks it will be the biggest achievement for them to secure a T20 World Cup 2022 title, with a relatively young squad as compared to the last editions.

The current Caribbean squad will be without key players like Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine, who helped them seal titles in 2012 and 2016.

In the absence of experienced campaigners, West Indies will rely on the top CPL 2022 performers like Brandon King, Kyle Mayers, Obed McCoy and Rovman Powell.

West Indies will have to battle it out with the teams like Scotland, Ireland and Zimbabwe in the preliminary round to reach the Super 12 stage of the tournament.

In this regard, Pooran reckoned that many among the cricket fraternity think that West Indies would fail to reach even the Super 12 stage. The 27-year-old thinks they don't have big names, but if they manage to stay together in times of wins or losses, it will help them progress well.

"Yeah, it [winning the title] would definitely be something special. Obviously for this group here, it's a new group, new faces, a lot of younger players in the team. For us to obviously win this World Cup, it would be our biggest achievement as individuals."

In their recent T20I series against Australia, West Indies failed to secure wins in both matches. Although the bowlers did a good job, the batters let them down.

However, the Pooran-led side won by 17 runs against UAE in the T20 World Cup 2022 warm-up fixture, with King (64) and Raymon Reifer (3 wickets) as their top performers.

They will begin their T20 WC 2022 campaign against Scotland on Monday (October 17) at Hobart.
