In Match No.56 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2024), Rajasthan Royals (RR) won the toss and elected to bowl first against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on May 8, 2024. 

In a significant development, RR captain Sanju Samson at the toss announced that Donovan Ferreira, the South African power-hitter, was included in the team in place of Shimron Hetymer. 


Who is Donovan Ferreira ?

The spotlight is on Donovan Ferreira, a young talent player originally hailing from South Africa. Born on July 21, 1998, in Pretoria, has been making waves in domestic cricket playing for Northerns in the 2018 African T20 Cup on September 14, 2018. 

The young sensation player made his debut on October 19, 2019, for Northerns in the 2019-20 CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge. In the 2020-21 he had his debut for Easterns at the CSA 3-Day Provincial Cup.

Rajasthan Royals signed the services of the South African player at the base price of Rs 50 lakhs ahead of the 2023 IPL auction. The talented batter has scored 622 runs in the first-class match in 11 matches at an average of 41.46. In the T20s he scored 933 runs in 53 matches with a strike-rate of 153.96. 

Taking note of his abilities, Donavon was snapped up by Joburg Super Kings for R 5.5 million, which was the fifth highest in the SA20 auction, his unconditional ability to hit the ball and playful impactful innings in South African cricket. 

The Royals have played commendable cricket this season and are currently registered in the 2nd position in the points table with 8 wins in 10 matches.
