After preventing the ball from crossing the boundary, Williamson injured his knee upon landing on the ground. He fell and appeared to be in excruciating pain. The medical staff immediately attended to him, but after careful monitoring, the Titans support staff helped him off the field. Despite multiple attempts, Williamson was unable to return to the game. GT called in B Sai Sudarshan as his substitute before naming him the Impact Player.

Gujarat Titan's director of Cricket, Vikram Solanki, in a statement, exclaimed,

"It is sad to lose Kane to injury so early in the tournament. We wish him a speedy recovery, with the hope of seeing him in action very soon."

After recovering from his injury, Williamson surprisingly made an appearance in the World Cup 2023. However, in a match between New Zealand and Bangladesh, just as he was about to score another century, he received a blow on his left hand from a throw, which forced him to retire hurt. Kane Williamson will be next seen in action against Pakistan on January 12 in the opening game of the T20I series.
