On January 5, 2018, Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah marked a significant milestone in his cricketing career by making his Test debut against South Africa at Cape Town. This debut was eagerly anticipated, given Bumrah's stellar performances in limited-overs cricket and IPL. Most importantly, it marked the beginning of a remarkable Test career for the pace sensation.

The Test series against South Africa was highly anticipated, and Bumrah's inclusion added an extra layer of excitement for fans and pundits alike. Known for his unorthodox action and ability to generate pace and bounce, Bumrah brought a unique dimension to the Indian bowling attack.

Bumrah, after wreaking havoc with his deadly yorkers in IPL, received a national call-up for the pivotal series against South Africa. The challenge was steep owing to the Proteas' heavy-weight batting lineup consisting of modern-day greats.

However, Jasprit Bumrah made the most of his IPL exposure and cleaned up the big threat AB De Villiers to claim his first test wicket. De Villiers and Faf Du Plessis had formed a 100-run partnership before Bumrah provided a much-needed breakthrough in his debut game.

Undoubtedly, ABD's wicket injected a lot of confidence into the rookie fast bowler as he went on to claim three more wickets in the fourth innings. Bumrah dismissed De Villers for the second time in a row whilst removing the dangerous Faf Du Plessis and Quinton De Kock in his following spell.

While the debut Test ended in a narrow defeat for India, Bumrah's performance stood out. He displayed remarkable control, consistently troubling the South African batters with his pace and movement. His ability to extract bounce from the surface and generate late swing made him a potent weapon in challenging conditions.

Meanwhile, the Indian management and then captain Virat Kohli acknowledged the young fast bowler's potential and offered him enough chances to make an impact.

Bumrah didn't waste a single opportunity, and within no time, the young pacer became India's man of crisis.
