Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's greatness in white-ball cricket is such that the two giants of Indian cricket will always be judged by their esteemed standards and face the flak when unable to deliver to the humoungous expectations.

During the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), both the veteran batters were undergoing a dip in their flow and consistency at the crease. While the Mumbai Indians (MI) stalwart made just 268 runs in his 14 innings of the campaign, his Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) counterpart could also muster only 341 runs from his 16 innings in the middle.

At the halfway mark in the competition, Kohli was doing worse than Rohit during the tournament before the great player resurrected. It was at that point, the former India player Sanjay Manjrekar commented on Kohli's form, insisting that even though Rohit is not making a substantial contribution, he is in touch.

When Manjrekar Defended Rohit With Kohli Reference

"Rohit Sharma is hitting good 20s and whenever he has played, he has looked in good touch. It's not a bad patch like Virat Kohli, who doesn't look in good form."

Kohli, however, managed to prove Manjrekar wrong by the end of the tournament as he regained his scoring ways and ultimately finished the IPL 2022 with a higher tally than Rohit.

The RCB batter wasn't at all in his true element at the crease and endured a horrid start to the competition. But kept a persistent outlook and reached nearly the 350-run mark for the campaign with two half-centuries.

Kohli managed to overcome his post-pandemic IPL blues during the following edition of the competition. The 35-year-old ended his IPL 2023 with a whopping 639 runs from 14 innings at an average of 53.25 and a strike-rate touching 140.
