In a remarkable turn of events, veteran speedster Mitchell Starc has recorded the seventh-most wickets by an Australian in Test cricket. Starc dismissed former West Indies captain Jason Holder to overtake legendary fast bowler Craig McDermott and attain the milestone.

Most wickets for Australia in Test cricket

  • Shane Warne - 708 wickets in 145 matches
  • Glenn McGrath - 563 wickets in 124 matches
  • Nathan Lyon - 447 wickets in 112 matches
  • Dennis Lillee - 355 wickets in 70 matches
  • Mitchell Johnson - 313 wickets in 73 matches
  • Brett Lee - 310 wickets in 76 matches
  • Mitchell Starc - 292* wickets in 73 matches
  • Craig McDermott - 291 wickets in 71 matches

Since debuting in 2011, Starc has established himself as a vital cog in the Australian bowling lineup. The left-arm seamer, whose strength lies in swinging the ball, can also hit the deck and cause discomfort for the batters with his searing pace. Starc has proved his mettle to perfection in ODIs as well, scalping 211 wickets in 107 matches.

Regarding the match, West Indies are down on the mat, reeling at 122 for six in reply to Australia's first-innings total of 511. So, avoiding follow-on certainly seems to be a daunting task for the visitors at the moment.
