Australian opener Usman Khawaja displayed exemplary batting skills on Day 1 of the ongoing third Test against India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023, under spinning conditions.

On a day that witnessed 14 wickets, Khawaja played out the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja with ease, whereas Indian batters were found wanting.

Former India opener Aakash Chopra has lauded Khawaja for his knock, calling him a good player in subcontinental conditions. Khawaja, playing for the first time in India in whites, shined in the Delhi Test as well.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra also said that Ashwin did not get his rhythm on Day 1, as he was seen trying a little too extra.

Here's what Chopra said

"Usman Khawaja is proving to be a very good player in subcontinental conditions. He played well in Sri Lanka and Pakistan and here as well - both in Delhi and this match. He has confidence in his defense and takes chances with his shots.

He got out playing the reverse sweep once and here while playing the sweep, but if you don't hit, runs will not be scored,”

As of writing at lunch on Day 2, India are 13 for 0 in their second innings, trailing by 75 runs. Australia suffered a late-order collapse in the first session, where six wickets fell for just 11 runs, bundling out the visitors for 197.
