David Warner crafted 75 from just 41 deliveries against West Indies in the second T20I. His knock drove Australia to a comfortable win at The Gabba, as they took home the two-match series by a 2-0 margin.

While Warner was adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’, the opening batter also scaled a new height in T20 cricket with his performance.

David Warner joins Chris Gayle for a remarkable T20 record

David Warner’s 75-run hurricane marked his 23rd half-century in T20I cricket. The opening batter also has an international T20 ton to his name, thus taking his 50-plus scores tally to 24 in the format.

Moreover, his latest effort also meant that the cricketer has now crossed the 50-run mark 100 times across his T20 journey. Apart from his international commitments, the cricketer is a prominent freelancer in IPL as well as Australia-based BBL.

As of now, Warner is only behind T20 veteran Chris Gayle in the rare list. The West Indies batter has 110 fifty-plus scores to his name. The legendary opener has registered 22 tons and 88 half-centuries in the format, with knocks ranging for a multitude of T20 teams across the world.

Out of his 110 fifty-plus innings, 16 of them have come playing for the West Indies. However, he last represented his national side back during the 2021 T20 World Cup in UAE.

With Gayle’s T20 availability only limited to franchise leagues for now, David Warner might overtake the West Indies slogger in the coming months.

The Australian opener’s immediate assignment includes a home series against England, which will be followed by the T20 World Cup 2022 later this month.
