Ruturaj Gaikwad played one of his finest T20 innings innings in the just concluded IPL match against the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

In a crucial game regarding the context of the season, Gaikwad brought his best and hammered 79 off 50 deliveries, laced with 3 fours and 7 sixes. Alongside Devon Conway, Gaikwad added 141 runs for the opening wicket and laid a stromg foundation for the other batters as CSK posted a mammoth 223 on the board.

In reply, Delhi Capitals lost their way in the second over itself. They lost wickets at regular intervals, and barring captain courageous, David Warner (86 off 58) nobody stood tall as the Capitals succumbed under pressure and lost the match by 77 runs.

For his scintillating knock, Gaikwad was awarded the Player of the Match award. Speaking to the official broadcaster, Gaikwad stated that he is blessed to be a part of the CSK side, and lauded MS Dhoni and Shivam Dube.


"Obviously, important game. As you said, it was an important game and we had to win it. It makes it more special for me to play this knock in my 50th game. Such a great franchise to be part of and I am glad for the support they give me."

Gaikwad stated that it gives him license to kill, knowing that MS Dhoni, Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja are still left in the dugout.

"In Chennai, there are longer boundaries and you need to rotate the strike more than hitting the ropes. With Shivam Dube, Jaddu and Mahi Bhai still left in the dugout, I went hard once I was well set."

Gaikwad also praised his fellow opening partner, Devon Conway and talked about his equation with him.

"Conway is a great partner to be batting with. I am happy to open alongside him. He has improved a lot from the last season. It is difficult to adjust to Chepauk and he has done pretty well. He now knows how to play here in India."

With this win, CSK have 17 points under their belt and they have officially qualified for the playoffs.
