Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal once again whetted the appetite of cricket fans on Thursday evening as he pulverized the Kolkata Knight Riders attack into pieces courtesy of authoritative, magical strokeplay.

Jaiswal has been in amazing form in this season of the Indian Premier League, consistently marrying classical stroke play with high intent and awe-inspiring disdain.

But, on Thursday night, he took his game to a completely different level, and in the process, smashed the record of the most runs scored by a batter in the first over of an IPL innings in addition to smashing the fastest 50 in the tournament's history.

KKR skipper Nitish Rana decided to play the match-up card by introducing himself against a left-handed Jaiswal, but the ploy backfired big time as the latter went on to smash him for 26 runs.

Jaiswal did not waste any time as he danced down the track on the first delivery and lofted Rana for a six over long-off.

From there on, it was total carnage as the young southpaw cut, drove and slog-swept the off-spinner to all corners of the Eden Gardens.

The 26 runs scored by Jaiswal are the highest that have ever been scored by a player in the first over of an innings. Overall, the team record is held by RCB (27 runs) thanks to Chris Gayle, who scored 20 of them.

Jaiswal then proceeded to tee into Harshit Rana and Shardul Thakur to power his way to a 13-ball half-century. At the time of writing, RR had moved on to 78/1 at the end of the powerplay, with Yashasvi still going strong at 62* (23).
