In a significant turn of events, Sydney Thunder have recorded another embarrassing record to their name, enduring a 125-run defeat to Sydney Sixers in the 50th game of the ongoing BBL season. Notably, this is Thunder's biggest-ever margin of defeat in BBL history.

Biggest margin of defeats in BBL

  • 152 runs by Melbourne Stars vs Sydney Sixers
  • 145 runs by Melbourne Renegades vs Sydney Sixers
  • 129 runs by Melbourne Renegades vs Sydney Thunder
  • 125 runs by Sydney Thunder vs Sydney Sixers
  • 124 runs by Sydney Thunder vs Adelaide Strikers

Notably, the Thunder were bundled out for a paltry 62 while chasing 188 runs to win.

None of their batters, barring David Warner and Joel Davies, managed to breach the two-digit mark, as Steve O'Keefe and Sean Abbott dismantled them with their sensational bowling effort.

Overall, Sydney Thunder have had a topsy-turvy campaign in the BBL this season. After securing a narrow win in the tournament opener, they succumbed to three consecutive defeats.

Although they made a remarkable comeback by winning their next four fixtures, they failed to sustain their momentum in the latter phase of the showpiece event.

Currently placed fourth, the Chris Green-led outfit will face Melbourne Stars in their final group stage face-off at the MCG on January 25.
