Devon Conway drove New Zealand to a comfortable win over Pakistan in the second ODI of their three-match challenge. The opening batter whacked 101 to mark the second ton of his short ODI career, and formed a match-winning 181-run stand with veteran skipper Kane Williamson.

After the match, Conway credited his captain for helping him through his sublime hundred, and also praised the bowlers for restricting Pakistan in their run-chase.

Devon Conway says team wanted to post over 300

The Kiwi batsman lost opening partner Finn Allen within the opening over of the match. Thereafter, he formed a 181-run partnership with Williamson, where the latter himself compiled a crafty 85.

Conway, on the other hand, went ahead and notched up his century. His knock alongside Williamson were the driving forces behind New Zealand’s 261-run total upfront. Despite slamming a competitive score in Karachi, the opener claimed that the team was aiming to cross the 300-run mark.

He further praised his skipper and the team bowlers, especially spinners for landing in good areas. Upon receiving the ‘Player of the Match’ award, he said:

“We certainly were targeting 300, especially after the partnership [with Kane Williamson]. I've got to give a lot of credit to Kane. I felt under pressure, and he kept on saying 'If it's tough now, it's going to be tougher later'. Spinners landed in very good areas, and asked good questions.”

With New Zealand successfully enforcing a decider, the two teams will now clash at the same venue in the third ODI of the series. The match will be played on January 13.
