Bowling captain Cummins changes Australia's approach, asks batters to bat as much as they want

In the first Test match against West Indies, Australia continued their dominance at Optus Stadium, Perth.

The only positive signs for the Windies were half-centuries from captain Kraigg Brathwaite and the debutant Tagenarine Chanderpaul, and some neglegible contibutions from the middle-order batters as they were tumbled out for 283-10.

The Pat Cummins-led unit had a 315-run lead after the first innings, and they decided against enforcing the follow-on. At the end of Day 3, David Warner (17) and Marnus Labuschagne (3) are the unbeaten batters.

In an interview with the broadcaster post the Day's play, the southpaw opener hinted at the blueprint that the Australians will follow in the remaining days of the Test match.

“Yeah, look, it is about batting tomorrow for a while and giving the bowlers enough rest. We need to bat cautiously and add a few runs in the process. We were watchful tonight.

In the leadership of a fast-bowling captain, the hosts will be giving ample rest to their bowlers - asking the batters to bat for as much as they want.

"We need to bat and bat tomorrow for a long time before getting our bowlers enough overs to get them out,"Warner suggested. "Obviously, there are plenty of overs left in the game. Look, we have a bowling captain (smiles), and they want plenty of rest as of now."

After playing 11 overs before stumps, Australia added 29 runs to the lead of 315 runs - before losing the crucial wicket of Usman Khawaja off Kemar Roach. A Windies win, from this situation, is highly unlikely as they failed to show the temperament yet again.
