Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi has hit out at former teammate Shoaib Akhtar for his remarks over paceman Shaheen Shah Afridi. Shaheen limped off the field during Pakistan's T20 World Cup 2022 final against England after re-injuring his troublesome right knee while taking a catch in the deep.

Speaking to Geo News, Akhtar suggested that Afridi should have bowled his remaining overs after taking painkillers as the match was in Pakistan's favour when the lanky bowler went off.

Shahid, however, does not echo similar views to that of Akhtar and speaking to Samaa TV, opined that consuming painkillers is not advisable.

Here's what Shahid said

"No, no…not at all, it's wrong. Painkillers should be taken in a disciplined manner. I too used to take it. But it has a lot of side effects. It does numb the pain for a while, but after the match day, it tends to pain even more."

Shaheen is currently undergoing a two-week rehabilitation programme managed by Pakistan Cricket Board's chief medical officer Najeebullah Soomro. The left-handed bowler is racing against time to get fit for three-match Test series against the visiting England side.
