England pacer Mark Wood thinks Ireland deserved to win the game against them due to their better performance on the field on Wednesday (October 26) in Melbourne.

Batting first, Ireland were off to a blazing start with an 82-run stand for the second wicket between Andrew Balbirnie (62 off 47) and Lorcan Tucker (34 off 27).

It was Mark Wood who sent the in-form Harry Tector and Curtis Campher back to the hut. The all-rounder Liam Livingstone also shone bright with the ball to turn back the match in the team's favour. Both the players bagged three wickets apiece.

Ireland finished with a total of 157, which was a competitive score. In reply, England were rocked by a double strike from Joshua Little, which saw Alex Hales and Jos Buttler's departure.

Dawid Malan (35 off 37) and Harry Brook (18 off 21) resurrected the team's innings but delivered slow-paced knocks.

Moeen Ali (24* off 12) accelerated well, but Ireland won the game by five runs (DLS method) due to incessant rain.

In this regard, Wood thinks they didn't execute their plans in the first ten overs and was disappointed with his performance despite picking three wickets.

Here is what Mark Wood said

"In T20 cricket, if you don't play well then you can get punished. It doesn't have to be the No.1 team in the world, it can be any team. We were off, they were on and they deserved to win,"

"The first 10 overs with the ball we weren't at our best. I'm pretty angry and disappointed in myself. On that wicket, I think I could have bowled much better. Australia is now a massive game but we didn't deserve to win here."

England will now meet Australia on Friday (October 28) in Melbourne. It will a must-win game for both teams to stake a claim in the semi-finals.
