Perth Scorchers prevailed by two wickets against Melbourne Stars in Match 11 of the Women's Big Bash League on Thursday in Perth. The defending champions continue to top the points table with this fighting win.

Stars post a below-par total

Invited to bat first, the Stars lost their in-form openers Lauren Winfield-Hill (0) and Jemimah Rodrigues (0) to Taneale Peschel. Alice Capsey (11) tried well but was dismissed in a wrong time.

Capsey's wicket certainly opened the floodgates for Scorchers, as they put Stars at backfoot with 55/7 in the 12th over.

However, Tess Flintoff (40) and Annabel Sutherland (31) were the key contributors as Stars managed to post a respectable total of 110 on the board.  Along with Peschel, Lilly Mills and Piepa Cleary picked two wickets each.

Stars produce a fightback, but Scorchers prevail

In response to an easy chase, Sophie Devine (0) and Chloe Piparo (1) could not trouble the scores for Scorchers. Then arrived Maddy Green (14), who stitched a quality partnership of 34 runs with Beth Mooney (35), which put Scorchers back into the driving seat.

The failure of experienced Marizanne Kapp (1) put the hosts under the pump. However, the lower middle-order batters were clinical with their performances.

Amy Louise Edgar (21) and Piepa Cleary (13*) helped Scorchers seal the game with two balls to spare.
