Pakistan-West Indies T20I series deferred till 2024

West Indies tour of Pakistan consisting of 3 T20I matches has been postponed to 2024, which was earlier supposed to be held in January 2023. The statement was issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board who cited requiring more match practice ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. 

In their release PCB said,

“The Pakistan Cricket Board and Cricket West Indies have agreed to postpone the three-match T20I series, which was due to take place in January 2023 in Pakistan, to the first quarter of 2024,

"The decision has been made considering 2024 is an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup year, with the event due to be hosted in the West Indies and USA in June 2024, and the shortest format matches will, therefore, help both the sides to prepare for the tournament.”

The major reason for delaying the series is considered to make sure that both sides get quality time on the field so as to be ready for the mega-event in 2024. The series won't be a part of next ICC Future Tour Program (FTP) list for 2024-27 which will begin from April 2024. The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will played during the month of June, which will be hosted by the West Indies and USA.

Previously, both teams were earlier involved in a three-match One-Day series along three T20I during the month of May. However, there were several cases reported in the Windies camp that led to the series being shifted to January 2023.
