England kickstarted their tour of Australia with a bang as the Jos Buttler-led unit overpowered Australia by 8 runs in a high-scoring affair at the Perth Stadium on Sunday (October 9th).

Batting first, England got off to a sensational start as the opening duo of Buttler (68 off 32) and Alex Hales (84 off 51) hammered 132 runs in just 11.2 overs.

While Buttler hammered 8 fours and 4 sixes in his 32-ball 68, Hales laid into the inexperienced Aussie attack, smashing 12 fours and three maximums.

The partnership was finally broken by Nathan Ellis, who once again impressed with his disciplined bowling.

The dismissal brought Australia back in the game as the visitors could only manage 41 runs off their last 5 overs to finish at 208/6.

Chasing 209, Australia got off to a poor start as they lost all-rounder Cameron Green for 1 (off 2) to Reece Topley in the second over.

However, David Warner continued with imperious force, and along with Mitchell Marsh (36 off 26) powered Australia to 86 in the 9th over.

Leg-spinner Adil Rashid broke the partnership as he knocked over Marsh's stumps before Aaron Finch got run out for a 7-ball 12.

Warner, en-route to a 44-ball 73, and Marcus Stoinis (35 off 25) did the repair job with a 53-run-stand in just 4 overs but the back-to-back dismissals of Stoinis and Tim David courtesy of Mark Wood pegged the hosts back.

Wood (3/34 in 4) hammered the final nail in Australia's coffin by getting rid of Warner in the 17th over, and while Matthew Wade (21 off 15) did his best to take his side close in what turned out to be a controversial knock, the hosts still fell short by 8 runs.

Brief Scores:

England 208/6 (20)

Alex Hales 84 (51), Jos Buttler 68 (32)

Australia 200/9 (20)
