Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) franchise Melbourne Stars have named Nicole Faltum as skipper for the upcoming eighth season of the league. Faltum replaces Australia's World Cup-winning skipper Meg Lanning, who continues to be on an indefinite break from the game.

A product of Victorian cricket, Faltum made her WBBL debut for the Stars in WBBL 03 after shifting base from rivals Melbourne Renegades.

The wicket-keeper batter has played 53 WBBL and scored 111 runs while inflicting 14 catches and as many stumpings.

Faltum on captaincy stint

"It’s an honour to be named captain of the Melbourne Stars for WBBL|08. This club means a lot to me and I’m so grateful to be given this opportunity."

"To be able to not only play but also to captain the Stars around the corner from where I grew up playing cricket will be an absolute highlight of my career so far.”

Despite Lanning's unavailability, Stars have the likes of England's Alice Capsey , India's Jemimah Rodrigues, Tess Flintoff, and New Zealand's Annabel Sutherland to bank on.

Stars begin their tournament from October 14, playing against Hobart Hurricanes.
