West Indies women skipper Hayley Matthews has reached the pinnacle of ICC ODI rankings for all-rounders. The cricketer recently came up clutch for her side in their home series against New Zealand, where she scored nearly 100 runs and picked up five wickets with the ball.

Matthews dethrones Perry for top spot in ICC rankings

Matthews, who was ranked number five prior to the New Zealand series, has rocketed to number one in the ICC charts for ODI all-rounders. The Barbados-based cricketer went past South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp, New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr, England’s Nat Sciver as well as Australian star Ellyse Perry.

The 24-year-old scored a match-winning 40 against the White Ferns in the third ODI, as well as claimed two wickets off her economical 10-over spell. She also compiled 46 in the second game and picked up 3-28 with the ball in the series opener.

Apart from the quartet of all-rounders who sacrificed a rung each in favour of Matthews, the rest of the top 10 rankings remains pretty much the same. India’s Deepti Sharma holds her number six spot for her stellar outing in England earlier this month.

Australian all-round guns Ashleigh Gardner and Jess Jonassen occupy the next two slots respectively.

Indian veteran and all-time legend Jhulan Goswami, who recently announced her retirement, is currently placed at number nine on the table. England’s Katherine Brunt follows the legendary speedster at number 10.

Notably, apart from Matthews, the next highest ranked women’s ODI all-rounder from West Indies is Stafanie Taylor, who swapped positions with Sophie Devine to be placed at 15.
