Siraj could force Team India return through Warwickshire stint: Bharat Arun

Mohammed Siraj, once a regular member of India’s Test XI, yielded paltry returns from his last two Test tours. The speedster was part of the touring Indian party which suffered successive Test defeats in South Africa earlier this year.

Moreover, Siraj also conceded 98 runs off his 15 wicketless overs at the rescheduled fifth Test in England. The 28-year-old last represented the Indian side in Zimbabwe back in August. Since then, he has been ignored for the 2022 Asia Cup and also missed the home series against Australia prior to the T20I World Cup.

The speed demon, however, recently took up a County assignment in England for Warwickshire. In his first and only match for the club thus far, the cricketer has impressed one-and-all through a six-wicket match haul, including a five-fer in the first innings.

Former Indian bowling coach Bharat Arun is of the opinion that Siraj’s Warwickshire stint will be handy for the speedster, if he is looking for a way back to the national side.

Ex-bowling coach backs Mohammed Siraj’s County stint

While speaking with the Hindustan Times, Arun stated that Siraj will be able to gain much experience through his County stint with Warwickshire. The former cricketer said:

“For any fast bowler playing County cricket is a great experience because to be successful you need to be consistent also, which is what we have been preaching to him. And in England when you are playing as a professional, they expect you to perform, so that is also quite a pressure which the bowler has to undergo. In any field to be successful you will have to handle pressure; there is no activity where there is no pressure, and the returns are very good.”

The renowned coach also praised the pacer for his abilities with the ball. He claimed that if a bowler like Siraj would just stick to his strengths, he could “blast the opposition”.
