Team India breaks Pakistan's world record with a win against Australia

Team India, on Sunday (September 25) surpassed their arch-rivals Pakistan's record of most T20I wins in a calendar year and went on to achieve an unprecedented landmark in the history of T20I cricket. 

Following the triumph over Australia in the third and final T20I at Hyderabad, which was also the team’s 21st win from 29 matches played this year, India have now become the team to win most T20 Internationals in a calendar year. 

Babar Azam-led Pakistan earlier held the world record of winning 20 T20I from 29 matches in a calendar year. However, now India under the leadership of Rohit Sharma have gone past the Men in Green's tally to achieve the milestone.

How things have panned out?

As far as the match is concerned, Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited Australia to bat first. The visitors got a blistering start, thanks to Cameron Green's batting masterclass.

The Aaron Finch-led side lost the momentum in the middle overs with Axar Patel getting on the throats of the visitors. However, thanks to Tim David and Daniel Sams' late flourish with the bat, Australia posted a challenging total of 186 runs on the board. 

Team India, in reply, huffed and puffed before eventually hunting down the target in 19.5 overs. Former skipper Virat Kohli and the batting sensation Suryakumar Yadav wreaked havoc and flayed the Aussie bowlers all around the park.

Concerns for T20 World Cup 2022

With the T20I World Cup 2022 less than a month away and Virat Kohli returning to the form, Team India will breathe a sigh of relief. 

However, there are still a couple of loopholes that the Rohit Sharma-led Indian management needs to address with death bowling being one of the key concerns.  

Team India will now take on South Africa in the three-match T20I series, starting September 28 before heading to the marquee event Down Under next month.
