The second T20I of the three-match series between India and Australia saw Indian skipper Rohit Sharma steal the limelights. Rohit led from the front as he helped his team cruise to a victory by six wickets. Persistent rain at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium reduced the game to an eight overs contest.

Rohit happy with his performance

The 35-year-old put up a show in Nagpur by smacking 46 runs. He faced a total of 20 balls in the middle and ended up hitting four boundaries and as many sixes. The innings was a big relief for Rohit considering he wasn’t amongst runs in the last few matches.

Speaking about his aggressive and attacking brand of cricket, Rohit added that he was been playing the same way for the whole year. The opening batter did not find anything special in his innings.

In the post-match presentation, Rohit said,

"I was quite surprised actually. Didn't expect to hit that way. I am glad that it came well. Honestly, for the last 8-9 months, I am playing like that, nothing much different.”

The skipper reflects on Karthik and Pant’s position in the team

Meanwhile, the skipper also reflected on the reason behind promoting Dinesh Karthik ahead of Rishabh Pant in the batting line-up. India included both the wicketkeeper-batters for the second T20I as they dropped Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the eight-overs game.

Karthik came to bat at number five when India were reeling at 77 for four. The veteran repaid the trust of the captain by smashing a six and a four on consecutive deliveries to finish off the match. Revealing the thought process behind the shuffle in the batting order Rohit added,

“I was wondering if to send Rishabh Pant over DK or not. But I thought, no let's give DK a go and he should come and take on Daniel Sams. Though he takes a little time in the middle, he did the job brilliantly for us.”

The series is currently levelled at 1-1. The final showdown will be conducted at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday.
