The young seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi’s injury has become a reason for massive criticism of the Pakistan Cricket Board. Shaheen sustained a knee injury just before the Asia Cup 2022 and was thus ruled out of the competition. The 22-year-old is currently in London for his rehabilitation.

It was former skipper Shahid Afridi who shook the entire Pakistan cricket fraternity by storm by making some huge revelations regarding the pacer’s injury. A few days back, the veteran revealed on national TV that Shaheen is on his own in the United Kingdom. The youngster is paying for his flight ticket and hotel room from his own pocket.

Afridi also claimed that the Pakistan Cricket Board is not much concerned about the seamer’s injury as he arranged the doctor for Shaheen abroad. Another Pakistan legend, Kamran Akmal, also echoed the same sentiments. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter minced no words while accusing the Pakistan board of not treating their player's rights.

The wicketkeeper echoes the same sentiment as Shahid Afridi

Akmal gave examples of countries like India, Australia, and England to demonstrate how the board should take care of injured players. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the wicketkeeper said,

“Boards aren't like this. Whenever a player gets injured, in India, Australia, South Africa, or England, all of these boards ensure the best treatment. They have a good medical team, they know how to make players fit. (But) We don't want to take responsibility. We keep sending injured players with the team in hope that they will get fit.”

Akmal slams Ramiz Raja

Akmal further verbally attacked PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja for covering the medical team’s mistake. The veteran believes that they could have handled the injury better. He also questioned the decision of taking Shaheen to the Netherlands for the ODI series and to the United Arab of Emirates (UAE) for the Asia Cup 2022.

Notably, various reports stated that it was skipper Babar Azam who requested the team management to let Shaheen be there with the squad during the T20 extravaganza. As per Akmal, it was a complete time wastage.

“Professional teams don't treat their players this way. They take care of their players. You kept Shaheen with yourself, took him everywhere, and wasted his time. PCB chairman is covering the mistake. He should instead be asking questions. They are just doing damage control by sending Fakhar (for treatment).”

Meanwhile, the seamer is listed in Pakistan’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2022, scheduled in Australia.
