County Championship Division Two Round-up | 14 September

An exciting Day 3 action of the County Championship Division Two matches resumed between six teams on Wednesday (14 September). Here is a brief report of the games played at Hove, Lord's and Leicester. 


Sussex vs Worcestershire

Worcs started Day 3 on 287/2 and were already dominating the opposition. Jake Libby continued where he left off to add 68 runs in the morning session with Jack Haynes. The 29-year-old batter then completed his double century and finished his innings with a career-best score of 215. 

The skipper Brett D'Oliveira was good support with 43 off 38, as Worcs declared on 438/5, and secured a daunting lead of 218 runs. 


In response, Sussex are at 39/1 at the end of the Day, with Ali Orr (24*) being the key run-scorer. The team captain and an opener Tom Haines was clean-bowled on 13 by Joe Leach.

Middlesex vs Glamorgan

Middlesex were at 286/5 at the start of Day 3. However, the wickets of John Simpson (76) and Ryan Higgins (40) put them under the pump. It was a terrific knock from Luke Hollman (58), which brought hosts back into the contest and helped them post 390, and take lead of 176 runs. 

In response, Glamorgan got a sublime start from their skipper David Lloyd (70) and Eddie Byrom (47), and thereby adding 123 run-stand for the first wicket. 


In another twist of the tale, the experienced pacers Tim Murtagh and Toby Roland Jones were proficient to take wickets in a consistent manner. As a result, Glamorgan are at 191/8, with a lead of 15 runs.

Leicestershire vs Durham

A fast-paced action transpired in Leicester on Wednesday, with bowlers stamping their authority over the batters. Durham started the Day on 239/5, but was dismissed soon after adding just 57 runs. The Aussie batter Nic Maddinson scored 56 off 111. 


In response, Leicestershire were left shell-shocked again by the proficient Matty Potts, who added seven more wickets in the second innings. Louis Kimber hit 75 as the home team were restricted to 198, and setting up 105 as the target for Durham. 

Then, Michael Finan secured a double breakthrough for Leicestershire early. However, the in-form Michael Jones (28*) and Maddinson (17*) have kept things steady for Durham as they are just 34 runs away from the victory.
