Team India have been officially knocked out of Asia Cup 2022 after Pakistan steamrolled Afghanistan in a nail-biter contest on Wednesday, 7 September.

The Men in Blue, who entered the Asia Cup 2022 as defending champions kicked off their tournament campaign with a five-wicket win over Pakistan in Dubai, after which they defeated Nizakat Khan’s Hong Kong.

However, the Rohit Sharma-led outfit hasn’t had the best of times in the Super Four stage, losing two consecutive games against the Asia Cup finalists Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Speaking ahead of the dead rubber between India and Afghanistan, head coach Rahul Dravid opened up on team India's tournament journey so far and said that losing a couple of matches, that too on a difficult surface does not make the team terrible and there is no need to overreact to things.

"I see my role as a support to the captain and the team. Helping the team to get the best out of themselves. But once they are on the field, it is up to the players and the captain to execute their plans and take the team forward. I think Rohit is pretty relaxed, and pretty much the whole team is. You have to put things in perspective."

"We lost a couple of games on a pitch, on a ground that has not been easy to defend on. Just because we have lost a couple of games, it doesn't mean we are a terrible team. I think we do not need to overreact to things. It is a balanced environment, whether we win or we lose. We keep going on the same path, and the journey continues."

As far as the match is concerned, Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi has won the toss and decided to field first. As for India, the regular skipper Rohit Sharma has opted for a rest ahead of the home series against Australia.

KL Rahul is leading the team in absence of Sharma and has opened the inning alongside former India captain Virat Kohli.
