The Hundred Women 2022, Manchester Originals vs Welsh Fire: Dottin's steals the show as Originals seal the win

67 not out with the bat and two wickets with the ball, Deandra Dottin's all-round effort ensured Manchester Originals pip Welsh Fire by 11 runs in a close encounter.

Dottin and Ecclestone puts performance with the bat

Asked to bat first, Lizelle Lee departed early after scoring just three, falling to Alex Hartley. In came Deandra Dottin, who smacked two sixes and eight fours to club 67 from just 37 deliveries with some support from Emma Lamb (35) and a late blitz from Sophie Ecclestone 36 off 18 helped the Originals ease to 156 for the loss of just two wickets.

Hartley bowled well with an economy of just over four, but the rest of the bowlers didn't have much to show apart from Annabel Sutherland's one wicket. Hayley Mathews and Katie George proved too expensive for the Fire leaking runs at 10.

Welsh tried but couldn't reach home

A very positive start from the Wales-based franchise propelled by skipper Tammy Beaumont (45*) and Hayley Matthews (69) wasn't enough as they were left agonisingly short of the target. Some disciplined and clever bowling from the home side secured a great win to grab the first points on the board.

Fire lost their first wicket for 110 when 47 was required from 28 deliveries, with their captain still at the crease. However, the equation boiled down to 19 off the final set of 5 when the opposition skipper Kate Cross gave away just six, including a no-ball she bowled on the second last delivery.

Originals didn't concede a single boundary in the last 16 deliveries when the Welsh side looked like the favourites. Deandra Dottin again performed, this time with the ball in hand, giving away just 21 runs and scalping two wickets. Manchester, after this win, moved to sixth position while the Beaumont-led side are last, still looking for their first win.
