London Spirit continue dream run with a win over Northern Superchargers

London Spirit, on Sunday, outfoxed Northern Superchargers by seven wickets to extend their dominance at the top of the table in the ongoing 100-ball tournament.

How did the chase go?

A sumptuous 66 off 25 balls by wicketkeeper-batter Adam Rossington, which also marks the fastest half-century in the history of The Hundred, braced with a clinical bowling performance set up London Spirit's fourth successive win of the season.

The Spirit bowlers were right on the money as they restricted the Superchargers to a meagre total of 143/5 after being asked to bowl first.

In pursuit of a minuscule target, Rossington played a sublime knock at the top of the order to provide a flying start to the team. His 66-run knock was studded with 3 fours and 7 towering sixes.

Later the star Australian Glenn Maxwell weaved his magic with the willow and smashed an unbeaten 43 off just 25 balls to eke out a comfortable victory with 18 balls to spare.

Daniel Bell-Drummond (15) and Daniel Lawrence (18) also played handy cameos in the middle. On the bowling front, Roelof van der Merwe, Dwayne Bravo and Adil Rashid bagged a wicket each for Superchargers.

Faf du Plessis's half-century knock in vain

Earlier, a disciplined bowling performance from London Spirit helped them restrict Northern Superchargers to 143/5 despite a magnificent half century from skipper Faf du Plessis at the top.

Put into bat first, opener Adam Lyth was bettered by Glenn Maxwell on the fifth delivery of the inning. David Willey (16), and Harry Brook (12) also failed to carry their innings longer.

Michael-Kyle Pepper and Adam Hose did a decent job at the backend and sliced up quick runs to help the Superchargers get a decent total. While Pepper scored unbeaten 21 off 18 deliveries, Hose got 30 from 14.

For London-based franchises, Mason Crane and Glenn Maxwell shined with the ball. While Crane got a couple of scalps while conceding 23 runs in his spell of 20 deliveries, Maxwell returned with an excellent economy of 2 while claiming a wicket as well.

While London Spirit remains a team to beat this year with straight four wins in a row, Northern Superchargers have a lot to ponder on as they succumbed to their third consecutive loss after starting the season with a victory.

What's to come?

Northern Superchargers will lock horns with Birmingham Phoenix on August 19 at Edgbaston. The Eoin-Morgan led-side, on the other hand, will take the field against Trent Rockets on August 20.
