Adam Lyth suspended from bowling by ECB

Yorkshire and Northern Superchargers batter Adam Lyth has been suspended from bowling by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). 

ECB came to the decision following the independent assessment of Lyth's bowling action conducted at Loughborough University.

Lyth will follow the ECB’s Regulations for the Review of Bowlers, who are often reported with a suspect bowling action. 

The bowling action of Lyth was reported by the umpires during the T20 Blast 2022 semi-final between Yorkshire and Lancashire at Edgbaston on July 16.

The assessment has found that Lyth’s elbow extension exceeded the 15-degree threshold, which is above the permissible limit. 

Following this decision, the 34-year-old is ineligible to bowl in the ECB competitions, and will need to pass an independent assessment test.

The veteran batter Lyth has been in sensational form in the English Summer this year. In the County Championship, the opening batter slammed 608 runs in 16 innings, with two centuries.

The T20 Blast witnessed him emerging as the top run-scorer with 525 runs at a strike rate of 177.36, with five fifties. He helped Yorkshire reach the semi-finals. 

Interestingly, Lyth is currently the top-scorer for Superchargers in The Hundred with 130 runs in three innings at a staggering strike rate of 203.12. In this pursuit, he also hit the fastest fifty in the competition, off just 17 balls.
