India's chances of winning the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022 could very well be hampered following Jasprit Bumrah's latest injury concerns.

Bumrah was unavailable for selection for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 in UAE due to a back injury and could also miss the marquee T20 World Cup in Australia in October.

He is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore and will be hopeful of playing in the home series against Australia or South Africa before T20 WC.

According to a report in InsideSport, the fast bowler's injury is serious and is a relapse of the same he suffered back in 2019.

Senior BCCI official on the injury

“Yes, it’s concerning. He is back in rehab and will get the best medical advice available. The problem is it’s his old injury and that is what is concerning. We have just two months left for the World Cup and he has got this injury at the worst possible time. We are closely monitoring his condition. He is the best bowler in cricket and needs to be carefully managed.”

Bumrah's tryst with back injury

The Mumbai Indians spearhead has been plagued with a back injury since 2019 when he missed a substantial amount of cricket for India.

A lower-back fracture saw the 28-year-old sidelined for five months before gradually making his comeback into international cricket in 2020.

Why is Bumrah important in Australia?

Bumrah has played 58 T20Is for India, picking 69 wickets at a miserly economy rate of 6.46.

However, the Ahmedabad-born's record in Australia is crucial, having snapped eight wickets in six T20Is, and overall managing 46 scalps from 17 matches.
