The swashbuckling batter Shimron Hetmyer has been named into the ODI side after passing all the fitness tests and doing well in the recent T20I series against India.

Guyanese bowling all-rounder Kevin Sinclair has also earned a call-up to the 50-overs side. He has featured in six T20Is, but is yet to make his ODI debut.

Furthermore, Gudakesh Motie is one of the players named in the squad, but will undergo a fitness assessment on the finger injury.

The experienced players, Roston Chase and Fabian Allen are unavailable due to injury and personal reasons respectively. Rovman Powell and Romario Shepherd have reportedly been left out of the squad.

These three fixtures will be the last three 50-over matches the Caribbean team will play in the ODI Super League. Currently, they are at the sixth position in the points table, and will have to win most of these matches to secure qualification to the 2023 World Cup.

Selector looking to broaden West Indies pool of players

“As we stated before, we are looking to broaden the pool of players and we have decided to give Sinclair an opportunity in the CG United ODI Series against New Zealand. He has been in the system for a while and was also in the ‘A Team’ to play against Bangladesh ‘A’ in the upcoming series. We believe with his calm approach and skills he will do well in the matches against New Zealand," said Lead Selector Dr Desmond Haynes.
