Asia Cup 2022: Qualifiers schedule announced, Oman to host games



In a recent development, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has announced Oman as the venue to host the Asia Cup 2022 Qualifiers.

Four participating nations - Singapore, Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Kuwait - will battle for the sixth and single spot lying vacant for the main tournament. 

The Qualifiers will begin on August 20 with Singapore and Hong Kong being the two teams, who would feature in the opener. The last match of the qualifier stage that will be played between Hong Kong and UAE is scheduled for 24th August. 

ACC made the announcement on Twitter with an image of the event's schedule and a caption that read:

"Oman 🇴🇲 is set to host Asia Cup 🏆 2022 Qualifiers from 20th August to 24th August with the UAE, Kuwait, Hong Kong and Singapore competing for the sixth spot amongst test playing nations India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. #ACC #AsiaCup2022 #Qualifiers #Oman."


Basis for Qualification

Singapore and Hong Kong made their way into the Qualifiers through ACC Eastern Region 2020, while UAE and Kuwait covered the remaining two spots after finishing as top two in the ACC Western Region 2020.


Tournament's highlight - Indo-Pak clash

The group rounds of the multinational tournament will get underway on August 27 with the first fixture scheduled between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. The following day will present the much-awaited encounter between India and Pakistan, slated to happen in Dubai.
