Pakistan batter Sohaib Maqsood recently gave his take on India’s superior World Cup track record against his country. According to the 35-year-old, the reason Pakistan loses to India in World Cup matches is because they become “overexcited”.

Sohaib Maqsood speaks on Pakistan’s inconsistent World Cup run

India and Pakistan share an intense rivalry in international cricket. While Pakistan leads the head-to-head race overall, it is the Indian team which holds a 12-1 record over their arch-rivals after 13 ICC World Cup matches across both formats.

Moreover, Pakistan’s solitary win over the ‘Men in Blue’ came in their most recent meeting, when the two teams locked horns at the 2021 T20 World Cup in UAE. Prior to that, Team India had maintained a 12-0 streak, one which launched at the 1992 World Cup.

During a recent interview with Geo News, Maqsood stated that the ‘Men in Green’ always succumb to pressure while facing India in World Cups. Although, he did admit that Pakistan is starting to get their acts together in such events, thus referring to their 10-wicket win over India last year.

“The reason for the green shirts’ consistent defeat against India in World Cup matches is because the Pakistani team became overexcited (sic). However, in the recent past, our team has started treating Indo-Pak matches normally, and it has improved our performance too.”

India and Pakistan gear up for Round 14

The Indian team, under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, will be facing Pakistan in yet another World Cup encounter later this year. Both sides are placed in the same group at the ICC T20 World Cup, and will collide at the MCG on October 23.

The match will mark the 14th occasion of the two sides facing each other across ICC World Cups.

However, their immediate face-off will be featured in this month’s Asia Cup, where the two sides could end playing three matches against each other. The tournament serves as a testing ground for both teams ahead of the main event in Australia.
