The England and Wales Cricket Board on Friday (July 5) named a 13-member England Lions squad for the four-day match against South Africa starting on 9 August. The one-off practice game will see players leave their Hundred and Royal London one-day teams in order to play the tour game against the touring Proteas side starting on August 9.

The squad includes household names like Dom Sibley, Will Jacks, Keaton Jennings, Dan Lawrence, Craig Overton, Ollie Robinson, and Ben Duckett.

Opportunity for players to earn national call-up

“We are delighted that the Lions will have a competitive fixture against the South African tourists" - Mo Bobat.

Seven players named - Sam Billings, Sam Cook, Dan Lawrence, Ben Duckett, Craig Overton, Will Jacks, and Harry Brook - will step away from The Hundred duties to play for Lions.

The tour match will be an ideal opportunity for the players to test themselves against a strong South African side as they will bid for a national call-up.
