'He has grown from strength to strength'- Rohit Sharma heaps praise on Suryakumar Yadav

Indian captain Rohit Sharma lavished praise on Suryakumar Yadav, stating that the stylish batsman has grown from strength to strength since he made his debut last year.

Sharma's remarks came on a night when Yadav once again showcased to the entire world just how good a batsman he is in T20I cricket.

The stylish Mumbai batsman smashed his maiden International hundred- a 55-ball 117- to take his side close to the finishing line in a 216 run-chase.

It was a masterclass from Yadav in innings construction and versatile, 360-degree strokeplay as he painted every corner of Trent Bridge with his dazzling hits.

Yadav smashed as many as 14 fours and six sixes during his knock, and it was his 119-run-stand with Shreyas Iyer that brought India back in the game after they were reduced to 3-31 in the powerplay.

The only reason India could even come close was because of Yadav, who gave his all up until the 19th over, only to end up on the losing side.

Sharma, who has always been a big admirer of Yadav, was magnanimous in his praise for his Mumbai Indians teammate during the post-match presentation.

"I thought it was a fantastic chase although we fell short. We are proud of the fight. Surya was magnificent to watch. I have been watching him for a while now. Loves this format, has a wide range of shots. He has grown from strength to strength since we got him into the squad," captain Rohit Sharma.

Yadav has become an integral part of the Indian T20I team, and Sunday's knock underlined his importance to the side.

An elite batsman against pace and quality spin, Yadav is one of the rare Indian players who can nail almost every role asked of him.

On Sunday, he initially took his time before launching a stunning counterattack, which was breathtaking and very calculative. He picked his bowlers well and smashed everything out of the park except the shot that led to his demise.

He will look to continue with his excellent form in the upcoming ODI series.
