In an exciting Super Fours encounter at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Tuesday, India secured a 41-run victory over Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023

Rohit praised team's depth and adaptability in win over Sri Lanka

This win has assured India's place in the tournament's final, where they will face the winner of the upcoming clash between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Reflecting on the match's dynamics, India's captain Rohit Sharma expressed the team's determination under pressure. He highlighted the challenges the match presented and affirmed the team's desire to play on such demanding pitches to gauge their potential.

Rohit particularly praised Hardik Pandya, noting his significant improvement in bowling. He emphasized that defending the given total was not an easy task, especially with the pitch conditions seeming to favour the batsmen as the game progressed.

“It was a good game. For us also to play a game like that under pressure. Challenged a lot of aspects of our game. We definitely want to play on pitches like to see what we can achieve. [Hardik] He's worked hard on his bowling over the last couple of years, and it's pleasing to see how he bowled that spell. Not an easy target to defend. Pitch got slightly better towards the end so we had to hold our nerve and bowl consistently."

Furthermore, Rohit lauded Kuldeep Yadav's performance and attributed his recent successes to his dedicated focus on rhythm and training over the past year. He indicated that Yadav's exceptional form in the recent one-day internationals offers a range of options for the team in their strategy moving forward.

“[Kuldeep?] Again for the past year or so bowling really well. He's worked hard on his rhythm and you can see the results in the last 15 ODIs he's played. He gives us a lot of options. So going forward it's a pretty good sign."

Coming to the IND vs SL game, India started strong with an 80-run opening partnership between Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill.

However, they were restricted to 213 runs, thanks to the outstanding performance by the Sri Lankan spinners. Dunith Wellalage stood out, taking five wickets, while Charith Asalanka secured four dismissals.

In response, Indian pacers made an immediate impact, reducing the hosts to 99/6 within 25.1 overs. Despite a fighting 63-run stand between Wellalage and Dhananjaya de Silva, India's bowling shone.

Spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja claimed four and two wickets respectively, while Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Hardik contributed with two, one, and one wicket each. In the end, Sri Lanka was eventually all out for 172.
