Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav failed to pile on his newfound purple patch as the cricketer was dismissed for just five against Australia in their final T20I match in Bengaluru.

Batting at number four and arriving to the crease within the opening powerplay, Suryakumar could not get to the top of the bounce off Ben Dwarshuis, subsequently spooning a catch to Ben McDermott at backward point with his attempted cut short.

India’s stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav made his way to the crease following the early dismissals of both in-form openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad. In his bid to up the scoring rate and lead team’s recovery, the elegant right-hander misjudged Ben Dwarshuis’ short ball as he handed Ben McDermott a diving catch at backward point with an attempted cut through the off side.

Suryakumar Yadav’s untimely dismissal reduced Team India to 46-3 in 6.5 overs. Fellow in-form batter Rinku Singh also shortly made his way back to the pavilion as the hosts slumped further at 55-4 inside the halfway stage of the innings.

Suryakumar was appointed as India’s captain for the ongoing series for the first time in his career. In his maiden assignment as skipper, the cricketer bludgeoned a match-winning 80 in Visakhapatnam and led his side to clinical wins in their initial two games.

With a 2-0 lead in the series, the ‘Men in Blue’ lost their momentum to Glenn Maxwell’s run-chase juggernaut before eventually finding their rhythm in Raipur to seal their five-match rubber with a game to spare.
